Tropical Escape

Summer is just around the corner. Raise your hand if you are in need of a vacation...(raises hand). I am so ready for a vacation! This outfit makes me feel like going away to a tropical paradise. I would love to sit by the beach and enjoy the cool breeze while watching the sunset and listening to the sound of the waves and birds...ahh...wouldn't it be nice? The gorgeous flowers in this skirt, the light and airy top with a beautiful crochet detail, the wild tiger print fedora, the crochet shoulder bag, and these super cute yellow/green mule sandals make for the perfect ensemble to wear to a fancy dinner by the beach. Don't forget some very cool mirrored sunnies to top off this look and of course protect your eyes from the sun.

I can't get over how fast the time is passing. We don't have control of the time, but we can definitely control how we want to use and spend our time. So let's make good use of our time and enjoy every moment. Out with the old and in with the new. Goodbye May and hello June! There are so many exciting events coming up for me this month. One of them is one of my best friend's wedding. I am ecstatic and so happy that my dear friend will be tying the know and guess what? This will be a destination wedding... wait for it... by the BEACH! Stay tuned because I have so much I want to share with you on the blog such as: my travel experience, some DIY projects I am currently working on for the bridal shower, photos from the wedding, and so much more!

White & Denim

Memorial weekend is long gone and a whole new weekend is fast approaching. But before we get there, let’s rewind back to this past weekend real quick. This was a very busy and exciting memorial weekend packed with so many activities. I spent a lot of my time with my family. Between all the shopping, going to the park, cleaning and organizing, and preparing for our annual family barbecue I was ready to take a moment to relax, and that’s exactly what I did on Memorial Day…just relax.

Every year on the Sunday of Memorial weekend we celebrate our annual family BBQ/Dominican Mother’s Day, hosted by my dear cousin Eliana. This year she asked me to come up with a dress code for the event. Since I have been currently obsessing over all things denim, I decided to incorporate denim into the look.  I wanted this look to be very easy to put together so I chose to pair up the denim with white.  I love the white and denim combination because it’s nice and simple, and very versatile. The possibilities are endless when it comes to choosing white or denim pieces. You can dress it up or dress it down. It’s great for the plain Jane or the fearless fashionista. I wanted all of us to match, but still wanted everyone to be able to express their personal style.

For my white and denim look I chose to wear something ladylike, dressy, with a bohemian flair. I paired a lovely white blouse with a denim A-line skirt that I recently purchased from Forever 21. I love the peasant or bohemian style of the top. The minimal crochet details and the flutter sleeves add a delicate touch to this blouse. The skirt also has a vintage vibe, which I absolutely love and always appreciate. I thought the two looked great together. I added these camel colored mule sandals (very on trend for this Spring and Summer), and a matching flap crossbody bag. I wanted the jewelry to be very minimal and subtle so I wore navy blue studded earrings, a thin gold feather necklace and a chunky turquoise stone ring for a tiny pop of color. A bold red lip, red nails, and a sleek, curly pony tail complete this bohemian chic look.

I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend. The next time you decide to wear white and denim, I challenge you to take these very simple pieces to new heights and think about how you can create a look that represents your own personal style. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I’ll see you on the next style post!

In light of Dominican Mother’s Day, here are a few photos I took with my son Arthur wearing our white and denim outfits. Enjoy…

Casual Cool

The days, weeks, and months seem to be running faster than water. That’s an old saying that I would hear my grandmother say when I was growing up. You don’t realize it until you get older of course.  Some days I feel like there aren't enough hours in the day. I have so much to do, and time just keeps going by faster and faster each day.

I can’t believe that Memorial Day is only a few days away. If you’re planning to spend this holiday on a boat or by the beach, I have the perfect outfit to wear to your party by the shore. I found an outfit that is reminiscent of summer, but perfect for those cool spring days. This nautical style striped jacket and skirt set that I recently purchased at LOFT (pssst…it’s currently on sale) has a casual, cool, and very sophisticated feel. I wanted to keep this look very simple, yet chic. I paired up the white and navy blue striped set with a chartreuse sweater to add in pop of color to the outfit. I know you're probably thinking I'm hot with all these extra layers. Quite frankly, I wasn't. I wore this outfit on one of those sunny spring days when it was in the low to mid 60s. For a more casual and comfortable look, you can wear this set with a nice pair flat sandals. I decided to glam it up a little by wearing it with white pumps, a nautical inspired statement necklace, and handbag.A bold red lip is just the touch to complete this look. This set is not only perfect for a beach or boat party, but it has a certain sophistication that makes it great to wear to the office.

Moving Forward

It's Friday and of course I'm excited because I love Fridays and I love the weekend. Did I mention that Friday is my favorite day of the week? Not that I don't like the other days, but Friday just holds a special place in my heart, and that goes back as far as when I was a little school girl. It feels like yesterday when I first fell in love with Friday. I used to love coming home from school on a Friday afternoon and sitting back, relaxing, and loving the fact that I could stay up late because I didn't have to go to school the next day. Ahh...memories!

Speaking of days of the week. This past Tuesday, May 12 was my birthday. This will be the last year of my 20s...yeah I said it. I'm 29 and proud. People say I will stop being proud of saying my age after 30, but I honestly find it ridiculous for people, especially women to hide their age. I really hope I don't become one of those people because I see so much beauty in age. A lot of people describe me as an old soul, even as a child. I was sitting in my Godmother's living room about an hour before midnight on my birthday and noticed a plaque on her windowsill with a quote by Abraham Lincoln. It says"it's not the years in your life that counts, it's the life in your years." That quote instantly caught my attention and made me realize that a lot of people in this world are so caught up in the numbers and not in the beauty of age. Next year I will be entering a new decade and I am so excited about what the future holds, the memories that will be created, the things I will learn. Aging is a gift from God. It's a beautiful gift... it really is.

This year my birthday was on a Tuesday, which means I had to go to work. I decided to make this one very low key, but still keep it bright and colorful with my birthday ensemble. I based my outfit around this lovely floral print blazer that I bought at Forever 21 I believe two years ago. I finally decided to wear it for the first time. I know. I know. I should have worn it along time ago, but I just never found the perfect time until this day of course. So I paired up this cheery and pretty blazer with a chartreuse tank top, white high waist jeans, my royal blue pumps, and some gold accessories to complete the look. This outfit was cute, colorful and oh so comfortable.
