PFC #21: Fascinators -- Fancy Peacock

I am very excited to announce that this post is brought to you by a Petite Fashion Challenge that I signed up for a few weeks ago. These PFC's (Petite Fashion Challenges) are hosted by a different style blogger each month. The style blogger comes up with a theme, you sign up if you're interested, and simply follow posting instructions on the host's page. You don't have to be a blogger and you don't have to be petite to join these challenges. For more information visit Alterations Needed Forum to see who will be hosting the next challenge.

This month's challenge was hosted by the beautiful and stylish Mrs. KT Reed. Make sure to check out her lovely blog, KTR Style

The Challenge: "to create an outfit for an occasion (of your choice: attending a wedding, in a wedding, a holiday party, Kentucky Derby, etc.) and utilize a headpiece as the focal point to make a “fascinator” statement. This headpiece can be a fascinator, a fancy headband, a delicate flower or a big hat. Feel free to get as creative as you like!"

My inspiration for this challenge was one of my favorite birds, the peacock. I designed and created an oval shaped hat made of black velvet with gold rope trim. I added peacock feathers on the side of the hat to give it the fascinator style.

The outfit I styled is perfect for a holiday party (Christmas or New Years). My goal was to create an elegant and sexy holiday outfit. To give this outfit a look of luxury, I used a royal blue satin top and paired it with a black velvet mini skirt that has tiny glittery speckles. I added a black belt with a sequined design in the center, which reminds me of the design on a peacock's tail. Sky high gold stilettos complete this outfit and make it extra sexy. Check out the images below and see what I came up with.

Rocker Chic for Thanksgiving Feast

"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years."
— Audrey Hepburn

Houndstooth blouse: Vintage | Burgundy lip stain: Sephora 07

In light of the wonderful holiday that just passed; I would like to share with you the outfit I wore for the occasion. I put together an outfit with colors perfect for Autumn. This season in fashion it's all about opulent and deep colors such as burgundy, plums, mustard yellow, and black just to name a few. Leather and fur are also very popular this season. I have had my heart set on burgundy even before the season began.  It’s a color we are very familiar with every Autumn; this rich color is reminiscent of the leaves of the dogwood tree during the fall. For this outfit I chose a burgundy lace top and paired it up with a tan faux leather skirt, and a black and tan vintage blouse with hounds tooth pattern. To top off the rocker chic look I added burgundy stockings, wedge booties, and burgundy lips. I think the mixture of leather and lace are a great combination that help create what I call the rocker chic look. I wanted to add a little more edge to the outfit by putting on a burgundy lip stain. At first I was worried that the burgundy lips would be too dark for the occasion, but they turned out to be the perfect topping for this edgy look.

There are so many things to be thankful for, but love, family, and food are definitely at the top of my list. These are the things I really enjoy about this great holiday. I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy delicious food and great company this Thanksgiving.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. As always, remember to stay tuned, and stay beautiful inside and out!

Fashion Meets Interior Design: Brown Brown, Blue

It’s no surprise that Interior Design and Fashion influence each other greatly. I find inspiration in just about anything when it comes to my designs. When I design, whether it's a clothing item, or a fashion accessory, I find myself drawing from inspiration from the design of an interior space or an architectural element. I can also say the same thing for when I design an interior space. I refer to fashion trends, or perhaps a type of fabric or pattern. The use of fabric, intricate details, accessories, color, and style, are just a few of the many things that these two industries have in common, along with many other creative components.

For this blog post, I would like to show you an example of how an interior space can influence fashion. The image of the bedroom below is a bedroom designed by Sabrina Soto of HGTV's High/Low Project. The use of the powder blue against the rich dark brown gives this 1940s inspired bedroom a delicate, yet bold appearance. I wanted to recreate that look by styling an outfit using the same colors and textures used in this pretty blue and brown bedroom. I looked in my closet and found a powder blue blouse that I had bought a few months ago. I thought it was perfect for achieving the look of this room. It is the perfect shade of blue, and the abstract print reminded me of the two large flower-like wall art pieces that hang above the bed. I paired it up with brown leggings, a vintage brown leather belt and boots. I also added a bit of glitz to the outfit with my large blue stone ring and chandelier earrings.

Take a look at the images below to see what I came up with.

Earrings: H&M | Blouse and Ring: Forever 21 | Belt: Vintage | Leggings: TJMaxx | Boots: Target

Do you think I achieved the delicate look of the room with this outfit?

I hope you enjoyed this post. Stay tuned for more on this topic of Fashion meets Interior Design and as always, remember to stay beautiful inside and out!

Beautiful Inside

Interior beauty can have various meanings. It can mean someone who treats people nicely, or a beautiful interior space, and so on and so forth. However, for this entry, I would like to focus on the inside of our bodies. How beautiful are you on the inside? Literally!

In today’s society, we tend to put a lot of emphasis on exterior beauty. We want what we think is the “perfect” body, beautiful hair, clothes, etc., but how often do we focus on our inner beauty? Ever heard the phrase “you are what you eat?” Well that’s exactly right. The food that we eat reflects who we are physically and mentally. Without the proper nutrients, our bodies won’t have sufficient energy to go on about our everyday tasks. Like the engines in a car, our bodies are our engines. They work to keep us moving. Without the proper maintenance, we risk causing permanent damage, and eventually failure, which in the case of us humans, it means death. These are all things I’m sure you have heard before, but think about this, and be honest to yourself. Are you providing the proper maintenance for your body?

I don’t know your answer to this question, but for me, eating a nutritious meal has always been a wonderful idea. While I have fantasized about eating nothing but healthy food, I have come to realize that this is quite a difficult goal to maintain. We live in a world where we are always on the go. Sometimes we may even skip a meal because we simply don’t have time. I will be honest; I have been guilty of this. However, it is time for a change. I want to encourage you as well as myself, to establish a healthy eating habit.

Pumpkins, squash, corn and potatoes are very popular this season. Not only are they beautiful to look at with their bright colors and different textures, but they also provide a great source of nutrients to nourish our bodies.  I’m sure you’re familiar with these vegetables, but how often do you eat these? Are they a part of your diet?

Pumpkin seeds provide a great source of nutrients such as: zinc, manganese, tryptophan, magnesium, copper, protein. phoshorus, and iron.

I recommend visiting your local farm or farmer's market to take advantage of the fresh produce selections at a great price. If you can't easily access a farm or farmers market, then don't worry, there's always your local supermarket. For delicious recipes including the vegetables mentioned on this post, I suggest visiting my favorite televison and online network; www.foodnetwork.com

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and start your path to a healthy diet, and stay beautiful inside and out!

Fresh in Style

Hello, and welcome to my blog! I have wanted to start a blog for quite some time, but never found the right time to do so. Well…now is the time. I'm ready to take you on a creative journey and introduce you to my world of self-expression and personal style.

There are three key things that we absolutely need in life in order to survive. Wouldn't you agree that we need food, we need shelter, and we need clothes? Interiors a la Vogue blog captures a combination of these three things; Interior Design, Food, and Fashion, which I will refer to as IDFF. I believe that IDFF is a reflection of who we are. I’ll put it in mathematical terms for you; healthy eating + comfortable living + tasteful dressing = a happy YOU. Join me as I share with you my idea of exquisite living, dining, and dressing. You will see some of my very own creations, as well as those I find to be inspirational or suitable to my taste. One week you might find me blogging about a delicious recipe, about a fashion trend, a beautiful interior space, a DIY project, and so much more. Does this sound exciting?

Get ready to be inspired and let's begin our journey to a happier YOU...

The outfit I'm wearing is from one of my favorite clothing stores; Forever 21. Not all of us can afford designer fashions. What I like about Forever 21 is that you can find fun, stylish pieces at an affordable price.

"It’s a new era in fashion - there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together."

— Alexander McQueen

Hope you enjoyed reading my first blog entry. I'm excited to share more about my personal style with you. Stay tuned and stay beautiful inside and out!
